Reflections from the President

Dear SAVIR Members and Partners,

Over Thanksgiving, I was reflecting on what SAVIR has achieved so far in 2022. I felt grateful to SAVIR members, colleagues, and committee members for the many achievements we have made together.

First, I would like to thank the SAVIR Conference Committee for planning the SAVIR Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado on April 17-19, 2023. SAVIR not only received an unprecedented number of abstract submissions, but also raised the largest amount of donation/sponsorship money. I would also like to thank the Scientific Committee and abstract reviewers for your great efforts to review the abstracts and workshop applications. The 2023 SAVIR Annual Conference will be an excellent opportunity for researchers and professionals to promote injury and violence prevention and research through cutting-edge methods, research, practice, and policy. Please plan to attend and also invite your colleagues to the 2023 SAVIR Annual Conference.

We are grateful to the SAVIR past presidents who joined the newly established Council of Past Presidents. I personally would like to thank Dr. Carol Runyan for chairing the Council. These former leaders have expertise and a unique experience that could help SAVIR manage potential challenges and seek future growth opportunities. We are so fortunate to have them around and can seek their advice.

Finally, I am pleased to share that SAVIR has officially announced the call for several SAVIR award nominations, which recognize and celebrate members’ significant contributions to the field of injury and violence prevention. These awards will be announced at the annual conference. I encourage everyone to visit the SAVIR webpage to read the Eligibility Criteria and nomination process.

Time is flying, challenges are many, but the sky is the limit if we all work together to achieve our ultimate goal of creating a safer world for ourselves and for future generations.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season.

Yours sincerely,

Henry Xiang, MD, MPH, PhD, MBA
